Wine Label Design

By a professionals is considered as a separate form of art - because law does not require producents to place alto of information on a wine label - it is like a blank canvas for a designer. Wine is like a guest you can invite over of a dinner, to tell you a story, show you where it comes form and introduce a new country. And it can do all of that before you even open the bottle. Its packaging is not only defying the product, it os also defying our character, its is belonging to a group of lifestyle products - it tells a lot of who bought it and what they like. Good wine is a luxurious product, that we buy for own pleasure, so good, well designed label is a key to success. It should reflect its quality and character, show where its from, and who is it for. One of the main jobs of a wine label is to show where the wine is from, like Spanish Rioja, with characteristic, cut off corners. One of my favourite is a projects created by mash studio from aurstralia, brave and contemporary . Mollydooker winery- fun and young, is the wine i would buy just for the label itself. Retro colours and use of old cartoons alike characters are giving it very fun, fresh look, rarely seen on wine labels. Another great example from mash studio is Killbinbin, relating to old movie posters. More posh works from this studio is velvet glove, treated very literally, because label is shaped like a glove, printed with a silk finish. Francis ford coppola winery is just as good in design, as the best films from this director. Directors cut is beautifully reflecting the history of the cinema, from perfectly designed label to clever cork, designed like a film roll. Designed by Stephen faustina.
